Dixie State University in St. George announced Friday that it will join the Western Athletic Conference, moving its athletic programs to Division One status.
The change in status will take place in July 2020.
Dixie State administrators say they expect to see increases in scholarships and enrollment as the change takes place.
Sports including basketball will be affected by the move. The conference doesn’t sponsor football, but Dixie State officials say the school will field an independent Division-One team.
