Utah Senator Orrin Hatch wants federal oversight of sports betting across the U.S.
CDC Gaming Reports says Hatch gave a speech on the Senate floor earlier today arguing for what he calls a "set of fundamental, federal standards" for regulating sports betting nationwide.
He went on to say he would introduce legislation to that effect.
Hatch also said he felt betting regulations in some states were not stringent enough to his liking.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court opened the doors for an expansion of sports betting by overturning a federal prohibition on the practice.
In response, the American Gaming Association, an industry group representing the gaming industry, said in a statement that federal oversight had not worked – pointing to the recent Supreme Court case as evidence.
