Family Court Judge Reprimanded In Custody Case

Las Vegas Family Court Judge Rena Hughes has been publicly reprimanded by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline for improperly holding a mother in contempt of court during a custody battle.

In a 14-page order issued Tuesday, the commission wrote that the county clerk had to advise the judge on matters she should have known.

The commission also decided Hughes’ custody order in the case was not primarily motivated by the best interest of the child and did not act impartially.

Hughes has one year to undergo further legal education. If she doesn’t, she could be permanently removed from the bench.
