Caution Urged With Fireworks Around Las Vegas Shooting Survivors

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A resource center for victims of the Oct. 1 shooting on the Las Vegas Strip is offering tips for helping survivors cope with the sound of fireworks on the Fourth of July, which could cause flashbacks and anxiety.

The Vegas Strong Resiliency Center says people should notify their neighbors ahead of time if they plan to ignite fireworks and those who might experience stress or anxiety from fireworks should make a plan to cope and consider using noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs.

The Resiliency center suggests people find a way to distract themselves by listening to music, visiting a peaceful place or getting a massage.

The behavioral health coordinator Terri Keener says many people who were at the Route 91 music festival described the shooting as sounding like fireworks and their sound may be startling to survivors.
