RENO, Nev. (AP) — Much of northern Nevada experienced one of the warmest Januarys on record and more of the same is in the February forecast so far.
The National Weather Service says the average temperature in Reno last month was 42.4 degrees — the second warmest on record. That's nearly 7 degrees warmer than the normal 35.6 degrees and more than 9 degrees warmer than the average of 33.2 in January 2017.
By this time last year, Reno also had recorded nearly 19 inches of snow, compared to less than an inch this year.
The service says the high of 65 degrees in Tonopah on Thursday tied the record high set in 1995.
High temperatures are forecast to continue in the mid- to high-60s through Feb. 10 in Reno — compared to an average February high of about 49 degrees.
