CCSD Passes 2017-2018 Budget

After months of debate about what cuts to be made, the Clark County School District was able to pass a budget for the 2017-2018 school year yesterday.

The board of trustees finalized the budget at their meeting last night after months of back and forth about how to handle a $60 million shortfall.

They were able to do so without any additional cuts to the number of teachers. To prevent further job cuts, the trustees lowered the district’s ending fund balance.

The new budget has almost $48 million less in resources and $23.7 million less in expenditures. Union teachers were also present at the board’s meeting, in what they called “Caroling for a new contract” as the two sides are currently in arbitration.
