Recreational Marijuana Will Bring $300,000 Boost To Henderson Schools

A financial boost of about $300,000 will be heading to public schools in Henderson in the coming year.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the money was raised by city business license fees for recreational marijuana.

The Henderson City Council voted Tuesday in favor of a resolution to take 30 percent of business license fees from the city's five dispensaries -- and more than a dozen cultivation and testing facilities that market marijuana products.

The fees make up about 3 percent of pot businesses’ revenue and are projected to bring in $1 million to the city in 2018.

A city spokesman says the funds will be used to improve technology and to maintain buildings across Henderson's 35 public schools.
