Nevada Tax Department officials report recreational marijuana has brought in just shy of $5 million in its second month of legal sales.
August tax revenue is up from almost $3.7 million in July, which is when legal says of marijuana started in the state.
A spokesperson says the numbers show a positive trajectory toward the state’s two-year goal of earning $120 million.
Funds from the 15 percent wholesale tax and 10 percent individual sales tax are going into the rainy day fund.
State Senator Tick Segerblom says the unexpectedly high initial tax income is “a good thing” for public schools.
