Judge Delays Decision On Development Near Red Rock

After months of heated debate, a judge is delaying a decision on development plans for the Red Rock National Conservation Area.

Clark County District Court Judge Jerry Wiese declined to rule Thursday on motions to dismiss a lawsuit challenging developer'spers plans.

The county brought the suit after the Save Red Rock advocacy group challenged whether a development plan proposed by Gypsum Resources was legal. County staff said they wanted a judge to determine whether the approval of the plan approved in 2011 had expired.

The proposed community could be home to more than 14,000 people and would overlook the Red Rock Canyon. The idea is highly contentious among those who believe it will harm the ecosystem and defile the area’s scenic view.

The judge said he will make a ruling within one month.
