UNR Stadium Forgot ADA Compliance In Stadium Renovations

The University of Nevada Reno forgot a very important piece of its $14 million renovation to Mackay Stadium.

The Reno Gazette Journal reportswhen Nevada gave the 50-year-old stadium a $14 million renovation, it didn’t factor in a part of the Americans with Disabilities Act that requires wheelchair seating to be provided in all areas. It was a mistake that cost the university $690,000.

UNR president Marc Johnson called the situation “a disappointment” and an “unfortunate mistake.” The renovations started in 2015, and were billed to the Board of regents as a way to improve safety and increase ADA access. Officials from the university said no state funds are being used for the fixes.
