Nye County Gold Mine Wants To Expand Open Pit Mine

Round Mountain Gold Mine in Nye County has announced it wants to expand its open pit mine.

According to the Pahrump Valley Times, Officials with the company said the current mine is running out of reserves. Without the proposed expansion, mining would be done in 2018, and processing of new ore would be completed in 2021.

Round Mountain Gold Mine is located 55 miles north of Tonopah. In a presentation to Nye County Commissioners, mining executives told commissioners the expansion would not require a change to the BLM operations boundary.

The most significant environmental impact, they said, would be an increase in the dewatering rate. Kinross Fold Corporation owns the mine, which is headquartered in Toronto.
