LDS Church Loosening Dress Code For Church Employees

Big changes are on the horizon for employees of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormon Church.

An internal memo sent from Mormon officials to employees of the LDS Church Wednesday outlines a plan that includes loosened dress code requirements and family leave time.

Headquarters of the church will now allow women to wear professional pantsuits in addition to skirts and dresses, and men can wear light-colored shirts with ties.

At the same time, full-time employees will also be eligible to take one week of paid parental leave and six weeks of maternity leave.

The LDS church is the largest employer in Utah, and the change will apply to thousands of full-time employees at LDS church in downtown Salt Lake City, its four church-owned colleges and the paid professionals within the church educational system.

LDS officials eliminated the requirement for women to wear pantyhose in 2011.
