Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes is highlighting his work targeting human trafficking and child sexual exploitation cases, but he’s declining to provide details about recent cases.
The Deseret News reports that Reyes and officials from 25 agencies held a news conference Thursday to announce 16 arrests have been made since Jan. 1. They showed photos of 16 suspects and had a list of crimes some had allegedly committed, including child rape and enticing a minor on the internet.
But they wouldn’t provide the suspect’s names or the specific allegations. They also refused to say anything about the circumstances in which the children were found.
At one point, Reyes accused the media of fueling the notion that sex trafficking in Utah is fabricated by law enforcement.
Reyes, a Republican, has focused heavily on human trafficking cases during his tenure.
