LV Monorail Looks To Expand

The potential for a football stadium on the Las Vegas Strip may spur development of an expansion to the Las Vegas Monorail.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports operators of the monorail will speak before the Clark County Commission this week in hopes of getting an extension to the system approved.

The Las Vegas Monorail Company wants to move the southern terminus of the system from the MGM Grand to Mandalay Bay.

Already, the Clark County Planning Commission has greenlit the plan, but the entire commission needs to approve the proposal before it goes forward.

Operators want up to two years to find the money for the project and then subsequently carry it out, but there's no word yet on just how much the extension would cost.

The Las Vegas Monorail Company is not looking to get public funding for the extension at this time, and would pay for the project through bond issues.
