As the rooftop solar debate rages on in Nevada, a growing number of southwest Utah homeowners are outfitting their rooftops with solar technology as costs for installation have dropped 60 percent over the past five years.
The Spectrum reports that co-owner of Legend Solar Shaun Alldredge says cost is the main factor in customers choosing to install solar systems.
The St. George-based company reported revenues of $18.3 million last year and has become southwestern Utah's largest distributor for solar manufacturing giant SunPower.
Alldredge says the key to Legend Solar's success has been helping customers understand potential financial returns. The company helps residents take advantage of tax credits and other incentives for going solar.
Utah has offered a residential tax credit worth up to $2,000, and utilities often pay back consumers for excess energy generated by their solar systems.
