Gaming Companies Want PUC To Drop NV Energy Exit Fees

Major gaming companies that won approval to leave N-V Energy's power grid are now wanting that permission to be reconsidered.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas Sands, and MGM are lobbying to have the exit fees the Nevada Public Utilities Commission wants to levy against the companies reduced or eliminated.

Earlier this month, the PUC allowed the companies to leave the power grid – but not after collectively ponying up $126.5 million.

MGM would be responsible for just under 70 percent of that total, paying $86.9 million in total, with Wynn and Las Vegas Sands responsible for the rest.

Sands said the imposition of the exit fees more or less blocked the companies from leaving the grid in the first place.
