Fossils Found In Clark County In 2002 Back From California

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Fossils that were unearthed in Nevada more than a decade ago but have been on display in California are back home.

KSNV-TV in Las Vegas reports the fossil collection's return was celebrated Saturday at the Nevada State Museum.

San Bernardino County Museum paleontologists hired by the Bureau of Land Management excavated 10,000 fossil specimens in 2002 from the Upper Las Vegas Wash.

The fossils have been curated in California since then.

Vincent Santucci, Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument superintendent, says the fossils were legally transferred from the BLM to the National Park Service last month.

Santucci says the fossils were then transported back to Nevada.
