Protesters Push for Hearing on Abortion Parental Notice Bill

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Activists are calling on Nevada Republican senators to revive a bill requiring doctors to notify parents before performing an abortion.

Nevada Right for Life organized proponents to carry signs and stake out senators' offices Wednesday to request a hearing for AB405. The bill passed the Assembly, but Republican Sen. Ben Kieckhefer said last month the bill is unlikely to proceed in his finance committee.

AB405 would require physicians to send a written notification to parents or guardians of a minor seeking an abortion and requires a 48-hour wait time before the procedure. Girls could seek an exception through the courts.

Democrats opposed the measure, while some Republicans raised concerns about the bill's cost for courts.
