The Daily Rundown - March 6, 2026
⚖️ State Attorney General Aaron Ford, along with several other state attorneys general, has filed a lawsuit against President Trump regarding new global tariffs.
The legal challenge targets a 15 percent import tax recently imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. The move follows a Supreme Court ruling that struck down previous tariffs enacted under emergency powers. Democratic officials argue the president is overstepping his legal authority.
President Trump maintains that the tariffs are necessary to reduce the national trade deficit.
Some legal analysts suggest the administration may receive more deference from the courts this time around. The specialized Court of International Trade in New York will hear the case.
💰 The median cost of elder care in Nevada rose by as much as 13 percent last year.
That's according to an annual survey by CareScout, an online senior care marketplace.
The annual median price of a nonmedical caregiver was over 84-thousand-dollars in 2025, up from more than 77-thousand dollars in 2024.
The largest increase was in private nursing home rooms, which averaged around 174-thousand dollars a year. In Las Vegas, a similar private room costs nearly 200-thousand dollars.
CareScout's survey predicts that those yearly costs will continue to rise.
🌡️ Never mind what the groundhog says – spring weather is arriving earlier every year.
New research from Climate Central shows spring is arriving earlier across the Mountain West due to climate change, with cities like Phoenix, Las Vegas, Reno and Albuquerque warming fastest. The shift is having wide-ranging effects — drying soils and rising temperatures are creating conditions more favorable for wildfires, while invasive species and disease-carrying pests are expanding their range. Allergy seasons are getting longer too.
Ski resorts are seeing fewer snow days, and farms and ranches are dealing with increasingly parched conditions. On top of that, the study found extreme heat streaks during the summer months are becoming more common across parts of Utah, Colorado and Idaho as well.
🏗️ Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones announced the start of the Spring Mountain Redevelopment Implementation in late February at Chinatown’s Shanghai Plaza.
