💰 The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents is voting on a tuition increase for state public colleges this week. According to meeting documents, students will eventually see the full impact of this increase in the 2028-2029 academic year. Students at UNR and UNLV are projected to pay about $1,200 more per year, while those at Nevada State University will pay roughly $900 more. The increase will be lowest for lower-division students, like those attending CSN, costing them approximately $400 more per year.

🥾 The Grand Canyon National Park is restricting overnight hotel stays on the South Rim starting Dec. 6. A series of breaks in the Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies water for the park, is keeping water from being pumped to the area. The park remains open to visitors, but policies are in place to ensure the safety and sustainability of water resources. The Transcanyon Waterline Project continuously works to upgrade the nearly 60-year-old pipeline.

🚴 Henderson police are reminding parents to know the difference between an e-bike and an e-motorcycle — and about the safety risks. An e-motorcycle has no pedals, uses a throttle and is deemed illegal. Now through Dec. 12, Henderson police will conduct targeted enforcement of both e-bikes and e-motorcycles across the city. Anyone caught riding illegally could be cited. Parents allowing children to ride unlawfully may also face consequences. So far in 2024, Henderson police say they have responded to more than 40 crashes involving e-bikes; that number was 25 last year.

🎓 Nevada now offers more opportunity for future teachers to get a jump on their education. The new state-sponsored Teacher Academy College Pathway Program has expanded and is now offered at 46 high schools. It includes internship opportunities, tuition reimbursements and the chance to earn college credits in high school, all at a much lower rate than at a Nevada college or university.

🗳️ Active registered voters across Nevada have decreased since last month, according to a report from the secretary of state. A decrease of about 24,000 active registered voters is due to list maintenance conducted by the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office. The office sent out notices to voters and inactivated those who did not respond. An inactive voter won't receive a mail-in ballot but is still eligible to vote.
