Recording live, February 25 from The Smith Center in Las Vegas for the first time ever, NPR’s From the Top will feature five segments showcasing Las Vegas teen performers alongside some of America’s best young musicians from across the nation. Nevada Public Radio hosted auditions for NPR’s most popular music program, now in its 18 th season, From the Top is America’s largest national platform celebrating the stories and performances of extraordinarily talented, classically trained young musicians. Blending outstanding musical performances, inspiring and humorous interviews, and skits and games, this public radio show entertains and engages music lovers of all ages.
The classically-trained musicians, ages 8–18, astonish audiences with their skill and talent. Their hard work, dedication, and passion make them role models for their peers (and adults, too!). Yet, when they tell us about their lives outside of music, we are reminded that they are typical kids and teenagers, with normal worries and big dreams. In this winning combination we see a bright future, filled with the joy and hope that music offers to the world.
This show is also ideal for introducing audience members’ children to classical music and the joy of performing, especially watching accomplished musicians their own age take the spotlight. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
