đĨ Reno's Domestic Violence Resource Center is getting bigger, much bigger. Groundbreaking is set for Nov. 4 for a new 40,000-square-foot facility that will be able to house 100 people, four times the current capacity. It will also allow the center to have all its services under one roof, including counseling, legal help, financial guidance and child support programs. executive director Kristen Kennedy says the expansion is long overdue, with the shelter serving more than 4,200 people a year and providing more than 17,000 bed nights a year. With just 25 beds, the shelter spends as much as $5,000 a month to put their clients in motels. Calls for help have gone up more than 20 percent in the last three years, which Kennedy attributes to both Reno's growing population and more people knowing that the shelter is available to help.
