State approves $5M loan to help Las Vegas' SafeNest grow

Victims of domestic violence and human trafficking in Southern Nevada may soon get more help. State leaders approved a $5 million loan on Friday to help SafeNest fund the construction of its One Safe Place Project.

The loan is aimed at helping SafeNest build a campus that would provide legal aid, case management, temporary housing, childcare and medical care for victims of domestic and sexual violence, as well as human trafficking.

The project is expected to cost about $20 million in total. The state’s interim finance committee approved $9 million in COVID relief money for the project last month. The remainder is to be raised through private donations.
