Twitter

Name: Nicole Cannizzaro

Office: State Senate, District 6

On-Air Interview Summary:

Prosecutor Nicole Cannizzaro is running for State Senate District 6.

Cannizzaro was born and raised in Las Vegas. She benefitted from the Millennial Scholarship established with money from the state’s settlement when tobacco companies in the late 90s.

Cannizzaro said she wanted to work in the Legislature because of how the state helped her get a good education from Kindergarten through law school at UNLV. If elected, she plans to focus on making sure children who are students now get a good education.

She believes an effort needs to be made for high school students. Cannizzaro would like to make sure students are motivated, have great teachers, are learning everything they need to know and have access to extra-curricular activities that help them grow and develop.

Cannizzaro also wants to make sure college in the state remains affordable and community colleges are better utilized.

Besides education, Cannizzaro plans to push to improve the state’s mental health services. She said working for the District Attorney’s office has allowed her to see how some people who are mentally ill are caught in the justice system with little or no help for their illness.
