Lincoln and the Railroad

Abe Lincoln's honesty runs into western railroad barons and the result is statehood for Nevada.

Even if it may have pained Honest Abe to see the railroads control politics in dishonest ways, he played an unintended role in developing Nevada. The Central Pacific Railroad needed towns to serve as repair centers, depots, and construction sites. So the railroad built or developed several northern Nevada towns: Reno, Winnemucca, Elko, and Carlin. Senator Richard Bryan elaborates.
