There’s no shortage of what to see, hear, and do at any time in Nevada. Here are some highlighted cultural events for the week starting February 4.

February 4

Fifty years after the startling discovery that monarch butterflies spend winters in the forests of Mexico, photographer and National Geographic Explorer Jaime Rojo reveals this winged wonder of the insect world in new ways with never-before-seen visuals. Tag along with conservationists and citizen scientists who are helping this species avoid catastrophic threats, all through Jaime’s beautiful photos and videos.

Thru March 23

Working with The Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Department, the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas curated 35 images of Las Vegas and the surrounding area from the 1940 iconic publication, Nevada: A Guide to the Silver State. This publication was a culmination of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) project under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal Federal Writers’ Project.

In the spring of 1940, Government photographer Arthur Rothstein (full bio below) photographed Nevada on assignment for the Federal Farm Security Administration and provided almost one-third of the images in the heavily illustrated Nevada guidebook. This exhibition combines Rothstein’s photographs with objects from the Museum’ s extensive historical collection to offer a window into this pivotal year in Nevada’s history.

February 6

The Montreal Guitar Trio surprises, amazes, exalts, and ignites audiences with their dynamic and breathtaking stage presence. For more than 25 years, these multi-instrumentalists have sung and played the violin, mandolin, bass, and accordion–making their way into our hearts.

Now, the guitar aces (Sébastien Deshaies, Glenn Lévesque and Marc Morin) present a concert paying tribute to the legendary film score composer Ennio Morricone.
