Nevada Native reflects on race and culture in new book

Tyler Merritt grew up in Las Vegas. He went to Bridger Middle School; Rancho high school, then eventually Las Vegas Academy, where he majored in theater.

He’s been able to take his experience as a black man, along with the racism he’s experienced, and put it into words and videos that have attracted 60 million viewers online. They became even more popular after the murder of George Floyd  and the ensuing Black Lives Matter movement.

His book, I take my coffee black, came out last year. He lives now in Tennessee, but came to the Writers Block in downtown Las Vegas last fall during the book’s release.
