Desert Reserch Institute President Emphasizes Nevada Research

The Nevada-based Desert Research Institute has evolved along with approaches to environmental science, according to the institute's president.

Kristen Averyt told State of Nevada that DRI, part of the Nevada System of Higher Education, has been hiring researchers with broader sets of skills.

"Today's environmental science is not what it was even a decade ago," she said. "We employ state of the art techniques and technologies to monitor, understand and predict what's happening with our environment."

Averyt said the multidisciplinary work of the institute generated interest among scientists she met at a recent conference.

"We're not just recruiting earth scientist and archaeologists, we need engineers, computer scientists, data analysts, and cybersecurity experts," she said.
