Elko Mayor Says State Got Population Count Wrong

How many people really live in Elko, Nevada? It may depend on who you ask.

Directly north of Las Vegas, about 300 miles as the crow flies, Elko, Nevada, sports a population of 20,700 people.

Or does it?

The size of the city has become a legal sticking point. The city took the state demographer to court, arguing the state undercut the actual population.

Elko Mayor Chris Johnson believes the state has it wrong.
