Want A Date? Get A Dog, UNLV Research Suggests

Edmund D. Fountain for NPR

A UNLV researcher says women prefer to date men who have dogs.

If you want a date, maybe you should get a dog, first.

According to new research at UNLV, those who own a dog, not a cat, may have better luck finding a date. The study found that women, especially, found dog-owning men more appealing.

Owning a dog may be seen as a better measure of a potential mate's caregiving capacity.

UNLV researcher and anthropologist Peter Gray led the study, and tells KNPR what prompted his students interest.
