The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health has received a $100,000 grant from the federal government to support connecting the state's mental health sysetm to a health information exchange.
By connecting the two systems, it will give doctors access to the medical history for patients. Erick Maddox, director of HealtHIE Nevada, said most doctors today get patient records by phone or fax, even through a web portal.
Maddox described electronic health records as a system that will allo for more comprehensive information that will help to improve patient care.
The grant gives the partners one year to complete the project. Nevada officials are working with HealtHIE Nevada, HealthInsight Nevada's statewide health information network and Netsmart.
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technologyis the federal agency that issued the $100,000 grant to Nevada.
