Meadows School senior Aliya Farmanali has been interested in the science of the brain since as early as middle school, and has ambitious goals of majoring in science and humanities in college.
Farmanali is also one of the contenders in the 2015 Nevada Brain Bee – a neuroscience competition for high school students. In its second installment, the Nevada Brain Bee will once again send its grand champion to the National Brain Bee at Maryland University in March.
The bee’s goal is to motivate students to learn about the brain, and maybe even pursue careers in topics such as intelligence, emotions, memory, sleep and diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Held at the University of Nevada Las Vegas on January 31, around 50 students will compete in a question and answer format for the Brain Bee champion title.
The International Brain Bee was formed in 1999 – and has had a growing fan base ever since, with now about 150 local competitions in 30 countries around the world.
