Douglas Unger is the author of four novels, including Leaving the Land, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and a longtime writing professor at UNLV. Unger has also published a book of short fiction and has been a Fulbright Scholar in Comparative Literature.
But what he hasn’t written about, or talked a lot about is his difficult personal encounters with death. Unger says the deaths of his wife and aunt had a big impact on him. But it’s providing those last few weeks of care before the death of his brother that has left the most scares.
