Today is St. Patrick’s Day and leprechauns are everywhere. And when we think of leprechauns we think of whimsical figures heralding good luck and green beer. But last Friday one leprechaun was doing some serious work.
As part of an ongoing crosswalk safety program that in the past has incorporated a Butterlball turkey and Santa Claus himself, a CCSD police officer dressed as a Leprechaun played the role of pedestrian, while other officers observed, and sometimes ticketed, motorists who were failing to obey crosswalk laws.
With 56 pedestrian deaths in Las Vegas last year, its obviously an urgent issue, but what can a leprechaun teach us about pedestrian safety?
