Cellist Elizabeth Marshall got a personalized introduction to silent films.
She befriended two senior citizens, both retired symphony musicians. As a hobby they would watch silent films together, and debate which bit of classical music ought to serve as score for each scene.
Marshall has translated that pastime into "Everything & Nothing," an evening of nine silent film shorts accompanied by live music.
Pardue and Marshall discuss the charm of the early films, which are often dismissed as crude or slapstick.
