Maureen O'Connor claimed her massive gambling losses were due to gambling addiction. O'Connor was mayor of San Diego between 1986 and 1992. In the decade she's gambled and lost over a billion dollars. The addiction had taken over her life to the point where she had auctioned her belongings, liquidated her savings, and taken money from her late husband's charity. Her betting spree took her from Atlantic City to Las Vegas.
