Jennifer Egan - Vegas Valley Book Festival

Jennifer Egan's latest book, A Visit from the Goon Squad brings together characters who are connected through the rock music industry or their friends. We see them through generations and get a sense of how time shapes life in a series of episodes. Critics have puzzled over whether it's a novel or a set of inter-connected short stories, but readers have embraced the book making it a bestseller.

"I started the book not realizing it was a book," says Egan. "I thought I was just writing stories to amuse myself. And one story would lead to the next in that I would be curious about a peripheral person or situation described in one, and that would lead me to plunge in and want to explore it more fully in another."

Her book also won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2010. Jennifer Egan will be the keynote speaker this Saturday at the Vegas Valley Book Festival.
