Last year a New York Times investigation revealed Representative Shelley Berkley often used her congressional power to advocate for kidney care in Nevada. Her advocacy on the issue greatly benefited her husband who is a kidney doctor and operates a number of dialysis centers in Las Vegas. Last week the House Committee on Ethic announced it will extend an investigation into Rep. Berkley. While the committee doesn't reveal exactly what it is investigating, the probe is likely into Berkley's advocacy for kidney care that may have benefited her husband.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington recently published a study of how members of the House of Representatives use their positions to benefit themselves and their families. Rep. Berkley and Rep. Joe Heck are both named in that report.
