Hadag Nahash: The World of Israeli Hip-Hop Funk

Hadag Nahash is a longtime Israeli hip-hop funk band.  They put their stamp on the Israeli hip-hop scene with their "Tribe Called Quest" style, mixed with political messages of peace and equality.  Its frontman, Sha'anan Street, grew up in a Jerusalem thick with Israeli-Arab tensions.  But he writes songs about tolerance, and the group puts out CDs in both Hebrew and Arabic.  We talk to Sha'anan about mixing politics with music, religious tolerance in Israel, and bringing Israeli hip hop to the rest of the world.

Hadag Nahash performs at the Las Vegas Jewish Music Festival on March 4 at Temple Beth Shalom.
