Of course, that doesn't sound like a tough question but it's harder than you think. Many state legislators have been state or local government employees. The question has come up from time to time before but there is still a pesky provision in the constitution, which requires the three branches of the government to be separate. Does that mean you can't work for any government and still be elected to the Legislature? The Supreme Court will have to face that question in a new lawsuit. And it could have a big impact on the state legislature and some local governments.
