Last week, Ron Zaleski stood in front of the state Capitol. He wore a sign that read "18 Vets a Day Commit Suicide." Ron is a Vietnam veteran. After some of the Marines in his unit died in the war, he started walking barefoot as tribute to them. Then he found out about the problems that survivors face when they come home: PTSD, depression, substance abuse... and suicide. Some of his own friends killed themselves. Now, Ron Zaleski walks barefoot across the country, visiting state capitals to bring awareness to veteran treatment. "I sat on my hands for 33 years," he says, "I can't NOT do this."
