The Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a proposed temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Lone Mountain area.

The temple will be built on a 20-acre lot off of Grand Canyon Drive and Alexander Road.

Among the project’s planned buildings will be a 70,000 square foot temple, along with more than 500 parking spots.

Residents in opposition to the plan have expressed a number of concerns including lighting and increased traffic.

LDS church members have said they needed an additional place of worship to accommodate a growing Mormon community in the valley.
