Chris Smith

Art Director

As a 1999 graduate of Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA, Christopher Smith set out to make his mark in the designer world. Shortly after his arrival in Las Vegas, he started working for a small design studio, where is quickly ascended in the local design community. Wanting to branch out and see where else his designer eye could be used, he found his way to Greenspun Media Group where he started work on the Las Vegas Weekly and Las Vegas Life. Within his first 2 years he was promoted to Art Director of Las Vegas Life, where he received several awards for his work in this magazine.

In 2003, Christopher was approached by Nevada Public Radio to design a new magazine for their members as an added bonus, this publication was the Cultural Guide. He would continue working on this publication over the next several years, watching it grow into 2 issues a year, then into a quarterly by 2007, at which time the name changed to what is currently known as Desert Companion.

In 2010, Nevada Public Radio wanted to expand the magazine even further by publishing it 6 times a year. At this time Christopher was hired to the staff full time to oversee both Desert Companion as well as the other design needs of the organization.

Christopher is still loving his job and the work he produces, but has also added to his life outside of work. When he is not at the office you will find him with his son, Grayson, exploring the valley from Downtown in the Arts District poking around the galleries and antique stores, as well as taking his son out hiking, camping and photographing in nature.
