Donald J. Laughlin, pioneer and namesake of Laughlin, a small town south of Las Vegas, died on Sunday at age 92.

The death was announced on Facebook by his namesake property, Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino.

"Don touched many lives in our local community as well as nationwide, and we understand how difficult this news will be for many. Especially our Riverside Resort family. Don Laughlin was truly an amazing man to work with and learn from," they wrote.

"Matt and the Laughlin family have asked for some time to grieve and an official statement including memorial service will be made. Thank you in advance for all your sympathy and prayers."

Laughlin purchased the land in 1963, when he owned a club in Las Vegas. Several casinos opened in the years following.

The unincorporated resort town is located in the southern tip of Clark County, alongside the Colorado River where California, Nevada and Arizona meet.
