High Wind Warnings Issued For Lake Tahoe Monday Into Tuesday

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued wind warnings for Lake Tahoe starting Monday afternoon with higher gusts starting at night.

A lake wind advisory took effect at 1 p.m. for Lake Tahoe and a more serious high wind warning takes effect at 10 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Weather Service is forecasting winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 65 mph at elevations above 6,500 feet. Gusts are expected to be a bit lighter below that elevation.

Winds are expected to create waves on Lake Tahoe's western shore between three feet and six feet tall and could cause power outages.
