UNR President Search Committee Recommends Former Governor

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Former Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has been recommended by a search committee to move forward as a candidate for president of the University of Nevada, Reno.

Nevada System of Higher Education spokesman Francis McCabe said the Presidential Search Committee recommended the Republican on Wednesday.

The state Board of Regents is scheduled to vote Thursday. If approved, salary and contract terms could also be decided during the meeting.

The decision came after two days of campus-wide forums with four candidates earlier this week and interviews by the search committee Wednesday.

Sandoval previously served two terms as governor and was most recently MGM Resorts global gaming development president.
