Secretary Of State Corrects Mail-In Ballot Misinformation

Nevada's Secretary of State mailers is warning of election mailers containing incorrect information about Nevada's new mail-in balloting.

Barbara Cegavske said the mailers sent by the U.S Postal Service offered some incorrect advice.

The fliers said Nevadans had to request an absentee ballot to get a mail-in ballot and that they had to attach postage.

Cegavske corrected that information. She said all active registered voters in Nevada will automatically receive a mail-in ballot for the general election, which was part of the law passed by the Legislature in a special session.

Additionally, all ballot return envelopes have postage prepaid, so there is no need to add postage.

The mailer also said voters should mail their ballot at least seven days before Election Day. That’s also misleading, because ballots will be accepted as long as they are postmarked by November 3 and received no more than seven days later.

Cegavske noted that her office was not consulted by the postal service about the flier.
