Las Vegas Records Hottest August; Ends Triple-Digit Streak

LAS VEGAS (AP) — September has already brought temporary relief from record high temperatures in Las Vegas, ending a 61-day triple-digit streak which ran from July 1 to Aug. 31.

Meteorologist Trevor Boucher says the streak was the second-longest in Las Vegas history.

The 66-day record was set in 1944.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the streak ended after the National Weather Service reported the hottest August on record for Las Vegas, with a record-breaking average temperature of 95.6 degrees.

Boucher said the heat is expected to return with an excessive heat warning citing temperatures between 103 and 110 through Labor Day weekend.
