Washoe School Board Member Resigns Amid Misconduct Claims

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Washoe County School Board member Scott Kelley has resigned after allegations surrounding his divorce became public and the board chairman urged him to step down.

Kelley said in a statement Thursday he made the decision to resign from his second term "after personal reflection and with a heavy heart."

Kelley also works as a spokesman for the Nevada Department of Corrections. He said his name will remain on the ballot in November for possible election to a new term on the school board.

The pressure to resign stemmed from an article published last week by This is Reno detailing allegations made by his wife in court documents.
