The Nevada System of Higher Education’s Board of Regents approved the formation of a temporary subcommittee to steer budgetary decisions prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lisa Levine was one of several board members who emphasized the importance of making sure stakeholders at all levels have a place at the table.
“We represent a very large geographic state. We have communities across the state, large and small. They all are unique, and they deserve this to be a bit more localized and not top-down," Levine said.
Before selecting members for the Budget Reduction Response Committee, however, the board will have to prepare a mission statement.
Regents did not adopt the one proposed by Chair Mark Doubrava. The board also voted to deplete operating pool reserve funds to help colleges and universities facing coronavirus-related budget cuts.
